Cooperative Divorce Solutions

Divorce happens. It does not have to be expensive, massively disruptive or adversarial. Before you retain an attorney, consider taking control of your divorce with Cooperative Divorce Solutions. Traditional divorces involve multiple attorneys, large amounts of time and significant financial resources. The model we use at Cooperative Divorce Solutions involves a trained mediator that guides you through the process of making decisions about custody, child support, property division, and alimony. Most importantly, you maintain control of the decisions that will impact your life as a result of divorce. The outcome, created by you, is a legally binding divorce in the State of Oklahoma. This process significantly limits the time and money you invest in divorce. Although you are divorcing, no one knows better than you and your spouse the best decisions for separating your life and property. We guide you through a 4-STEP PROCESS
using assisted negotiation but you make the decisions.

Step One: Information Gathering

The first session, typically 3 hours, explores all issues related to divorce (PEACE -Parenting plan, Equitable distribution of assets and debts, Alimony, Child Support and Everything else) with the goal of reaching settlement through assisted negotiation.

Step Two: The Agreement

We draft the marital settlement agreement based on the terms reached during the information gathering meeting (Step One). The marital settlement agreement is sent to both parties within one week of the initial meeting. You will have time to review the terms of the marital settlement agreement. Some clients choose to consult (not retain) an attorney at this time to review the marital settlement agreement. Consulting with an attorney is not required; this is a personal choice. We may ask you to do a little research during this time (i.e. who's name is on promissory notes, refinancing options etc).

Step Three: Signing the Legal Documents

At this stage, most people are ready to finalize their divorce. Some clients may need additional mediation, but most clients will meet in our office to review and discuss the marital settlement agreement, make changes, and sign the marital settlement agreement. The divorce petition and divorce decree will be prepared either by an attorney or paralegal document preparation service using the agreed upon terms in the marital settlement agreement. These documents, and other applicable custody and visitation documents, will be signed at this time.

Step Four: Moving On

A petition for dissolution of marriage is filed. After a mandatory waiting period of 15-90 days, the decree is presented to a judge and the documents are filed with the court. At this time, the decree becomes a legally binding and enforceable document.

Now, you are ready to begin a new chapter in your life having maintained control of the process and limited the expense of divorce.
